How Brands Can Boost Engagement On Instagram With Collabs

Influencer marketing is getting a boost on Instagram with the release of their new Collabs feature. The feature — which is a TikTok clone — lets two users co-own a single feed post or reel. It will appear jointly to each user’s followers and will share the same comment thread, and other organic post metrics such as view and like counts.

For content creators and brands, this is a great opportunity to maximize reach on Instagram as they would via TikTok.

What is an Instagram Collab?

To attract Gen Z, you need to speak their language and Instagram is doing just that with its ‘Collab’ feature. As the name suggests, it lets users invite other accounts to collaborate on a feed post or reel.

It’s ideal for brands focusing on influencer marketing campaigns on the app as it’ll help increase reach by growing follower count and elevating levels of interaction.

How to post a Collab on Instagram

Fortunately the feature is user-friendly and the process is quite simple. It’s just like tagging somebody in a post.

To post a Collab on your Feed or in a Reel, simply follow these steps:

  1. Create your post or Reel via the Create menu (+ icon in the top-right of the app).

  2. When you reach the final Share screen, tap Tag People.

  3. From this menu, tap Invite Collaborator.

  4. Search for the Instagram account(s) you’d like to collaborate with, and tap to select them. If you selected the wrong account, simply tap the X next to their account to remove them.

  5. Hit Done to save your settings.

  6. Tap Share to publish your post to your Instagram feed.

If someone has requested to collaborate with you, you’ll receive their request in your DMs. To accept, tap on the notification followed by Review to see the post and then select either Accept or Decline. If you accept, the post will be shared with your combined followers.

Don’t get too carried away though as Instagram has imposed a limit of 20 combined tags. If you exceed this count you won’t be able to share the post at all.

Who can post Collabs?

Instagram started testing this feature earlier this year by launching it in a few territories around the world, including the UK, India and the Republic of Ireland. After gaining popularity in these select regions it has finally decided to roll it out to everybody as part of its ‘Features Week’ update.

Many of us have already begun seeing the ability to create Collab posts, if you can’t we recommend running the latest version of the app on your smartphone and waiting patiently for it.
